The The CERIF model has been recommended by the European Commission in 1991 and 2000. In 2002, the responsibility of CERIF activities have been entrusted to euroCRIS. In the meantime substantial updates have been released, as indicated below. The latest version of the CERIF model will be available with CERIF 1.6 under a CC-BY-ND license.
- Towards CERIF 2.0
A rough priority agenda has been agreed towards next steps and towards CERIF 2.0, in the following order (highest priority first): Model Cleaning, Research Data, Impact context, Geolocation, Subject Classifications, Vocabularies (facility, equipment, service), Mappings to most applied Repository Formats, Restrictive Metadata.
- CERIF 1.5
CERIF 1.5 includes an update of the CERIF 1.5 FDM as well as of the CERIF XML1.5 module. The upgrade features a new entity for Federated Identifiers and allows for a multiple structured person naming. Alongside these upgrades, it introduces a substantial upgrade and extension of the CERIF vocabulary (currently about 450 terms with descriptions, definitions, examples, source references and contextually labelled schemes).
- CERIF 1.4
CERIF 1.4 is a release of the CERIF 1.3 FDM module plus the CERIF 1.4 XML module only; it does not include the rest of CERIF intellectual property which is held by euroCRIS. The CERIF 1.4 release allows for a new structure for the CERIF XML files and is based on the 1.3 FDM, to be validated by a new CERIF 1.4 XML Schema file. This CERIF 1.4 XML Schema file based on the CERIF 1.3 FDM is published under this license.
